Models often hear the rule that a “real agency never charges anything.” The reality is more nuanced: agencies normally earn commission from work, while some markets may involve legitimate expenses or advances. Be cautious of guaranteed-job claims, high-pressure same-day payments, compulsory use of an unrelated expensive photographer, or vague fees that cannot be explained in writing.
